The effects of global warming are, needless to say, alarming and cause for immediate attention. The effects of global warming are more visible now than it ever has been before. Its apparent visibility makes it impossible to ignore. Changes in climate, in rainfall and snowfall patterns are all too hard to ignore. Mankind can no longer continue in its denial in the face of such drastic changes in the climate and weather patterns of the earth. Summers are getting hotter. There is a shortage of fresh water. There are more floods, earthquakes than ever before. More and more species are becoming extinct, and even more are on the brink of extinction. If steps are not taken immediately, life as we know it now will cease to exist for our children and grandchildren. The earth's temperature is increasing. The ocean is getting warmer. Marine life is threatened. These are the effects of climate change. Global warming is very simply the continuance of an ever increasing temperature of the earth. The earth's temperature rose 0.06 degrees Celsius in the 20th century. And by the year 2100 it is predicted that the earth's temperature will rise from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. This in turn will lead to the ocean level rising by 25% or more. The main culprit of climate change is the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. Co2 increases are due to deforestation, an increase in the production of methane, and the burning of fossil fuel. To be more specific, the main culprit of global warming is mankind. And it is mankind who is ultimately responsible for finding a solution. It is everyone's responsibility to do something about it. Each one of use can make a difference. No matter how small a contribution it is, it will go a long way to make a big difference. The news of the increase in global warming is not only a thing of worry but it is also frightening. Only a drastic turn around can stop this alarming trend. Only drastic measures can bring about a drastic change. Only if these measures are taken can a solution to the effects of global warming be found.

More and more people who like to dabble in DIY projects for the home, are enjoying the satisfaction of discovering how to build a wind turbine. It is possible, with a little know-how, to harness the power of the wind and generate enough electricity for the average family home. One turbine should be enough to power a house if it is located in a very windy area. Many families are learning how enjoyable it is to build a wind turbine, and then there's the additional benefits of a lifetime of free power. All the parts can be found on the Internet, or local hardware store, and then, armed with instructions, your DIY project is on track and you'll be harnessing free energy in no time. This list of item should get you started when you come to build you wind turbine: 1. A rotor made from propellor blades 2. A swivel mount for your rotor 3. A 20m tower to mount it on to 4. A generator 5. Batteries for storage and a control box. Besides the materials needed for your wind turbine, you will also want a family garage or workshop. The average family home will have most of the tools and equipment you will need. Find out if you have all of these tools in the workshop: wire strippers, a tape measure, marker pen, drill and bits, a jigsaw with a metal blade, a screwdriver, vise or clamp, wrench and an assistant would be very handy. The level of this project is high school, so why not involve the kids as well? If you're feeling up to it, you can build the generator from scratch, but you can use a permanent magnet DC motor instead. If you can find one, a computer tape drive motor will also work. It can be quite rewarding to build your own wind turbine and able to be tackled in a weekend. Tracking down the parts should be no problem. Your local hardware supplier, or junk yard should provide all the bits and pieces, with Ebay for everything else.

What Are Discretionary Trusts? by: Melissa Gordon

The number of different kinds of trusts available to someone who wants to protect their assets for their family can be somewhat daunting if you happen to bring up a list of them on Wikipedia or another such site. Although in many cases one type of trust is effectively almost identical to another but with subtle changes, the important line to take is that there are certain types of trust that are used with great regularity and others that are used only in irregular situations. Among these, Discretionary Trusts fall – just about – into the former category. Put simply, a discretionary trust allows the testator to set out criteria for the beneficiaries rather than naming specific beneficiaries. Although this may sound like a very roundabout way of doing things, there are very good and valid reasons why someone might decide to have a discretionary trust in place. Reason one – for the sake of differentiating – would be if, hypothetically, the testator has a son who is a reckless spender. With the credit cards, personal loans and overdraft exhausted, the real danger for the son would be that come the time of their inheritance, the money would be subject to an attachment in case of bankruptcy. By holding this money in trust the beneficiary (or the son) would be able to get their affairs in order and then have access to the money, rather than having it instantly taken by the creditors in a bankruptcy case. This allows the testator to bestow money as a gift to their child without having to feel that it will just go directly to the courts. Reason two is another which may arise in the case of a beneficiary in possession of a serious spending habit or, potentially, someone who is considered too young to be in a position of extreme (or comparatively extreme) wealth. Rather than have to choose – definitively or repetitively – to remove and/or reinstate their beneficiary’s status, the testator can decide to include the beneficiary in the will without naming them. From a cynical point of view this allows the testator to retain a level of control over a child who may well take their promised inheritance as a green light to behave with excessive irresponsibility. By requiring a demonstration of competency, the testator can ensure that their beneficiary earns the right to an inheritance rather than expecting it as a privilege. As well as these examples, a discretionary trust will allow the testator to have some flexibility in case of changes in circumstances. Should, for example, a new child be born in the time between the creation of a trust and its payout, the discretions laid down may allow this child some access to part of the assets at an agreed point. As well as this, there is the case of divorce settlements. If an individual named in a trust or will goes through a divorce, it is possible that their spouse will have access to their assets. By holding the assets in a discretionary trust, there is no opportunity for the spouse to lay claim to them.
